As the headline partner of TAB 2019, ABB plays a key role at the symposium´s panel discussions, too. ABB’s attending representative will be Dr. Kim Listmann, a highly respected manager for Automation and Grid Technologies at ABB´s Corporate Research Center in Ladenburg, Germany.
In Kim’s opinion technology and beauty are not that far away from each other.
His message during the panel discussion at the TAB Symposium will focus on „why and how beauty matters for technology“. In many of today’s standard devices technology is just one reason of why the object has been purchased. It also enables people to use it and look at it like a decorative toy. „Besides the sheer mass of functions these devices offer and their price, beauty certainly influences the decision which device to pick. Even though we cannot directly summarize it into a list of requirements, all things mankind have recently created, would it either be a new robot or a new website, carry a lot of „beauty“ inside. Humans are attracted by beauty and hence often favor the most beautiful solutions,“ says Kim.
Kim adds that there are a lot of opportunities for cooperation between architects and ABB. Not only, but most intensely in the area of smart buildings and smart cities. The collaboration with architects creates new lines of thinking and understanding of some of the major challenges in the field and can lead to innovative solutions and new values for future customers.
Dr. Kim Listmann holds a Master’s degree in mechatronics (Technische Universität Dresden) and a Ph.D. in applied mathematics (Technische Universität Darmstadt). His main interests lie in the creation of radically innovative concepts to customer problems and their application in industrial environments.
„I would like to uncover some of those beauty moments in technology and encourage everybody to think about the beauty in their everyday life – I am sure there is plenty!“– Kim Listmann.
